Good for Google. This is long overdue. American companies shouldn't be enabling dictators just to make a few bucks. They should have done this as soon as the Communists forced them to censor search results but late is better than never.

It's especially arrogant for the Communist government to be sponsoring computer attacks on Google, especially after they caved to the Communists' demands. The Chinese government has been repressing human rights with impunity for far too long, and it's about time they start to suffer some consequences. I hope this is the first of many companies pulling out of Communist China and telling the dictators to get bent. There are plenty of viable markets in countries where human rights are respected.

I personally don't see the need for censorship of any kind. I say allow everything and anything to be available online and then let each individual decide for themselves if they want to view it or not. I can understand that children are a concern when posting certain material, but if the parents are responsible enough, they should be able to censor and filter out what their child can and cannot access. It is a shame that people feel they have to be dishonest and trick people into doing things just so that they themselves can get ahead. So, if Google pulls out of China and the Chinese aren't happy about it, well, they should've thought about that up front, shouldn't they? They're only hurting themselves by hacking into places they have no business being in.

if they do pull out for good cause or is able to continue search unfiltered in China, I will be an Android user for life! $530 for Nexus One suddenly looks worth it.

Governor Ma, President Obama, and the West in General, this is how you do deal with Beijing!

if i was google, which i hope they are doing, i would vacate all china employees if possible as this is going to piss off the chinese government, not because of the unfiltering, and uncovering their activities, but because of publically losing face to the world. those google employees may be charged with treason, whether google wrote in their article/letter that it was the u.s. execs choice and sentiments or not.

The best and the brightest already left to work for Kai-Fu Lee. The rest are calling their friends at Baidu for jobs.

The main problem area are the hackers who are trying to access confidential information illegally. In such situations the most effected people are the genuine users of Google. Pulling out of China is not the solution to the problem. In fact it is important to catch hold of the real culprits who are trying to misuse internet. I think censoring certain information from the search engine is fine. If the Chinese government does not want to disclose certain issues then so be it. For the misconduct of few people others should not suffer. Closing operations in China would mean loss of revenue, jobs etc. Well, Chinese government should take some action against such events. It can happen with other companies as well. If no action is taken then it can get worse.

But this not the right way to stop google searh in china. Actually every thing in world has two faces like coin, if google searching is creating problem to chines but it also helps millons of commom man, scientist etc. I can not imagine without a google, it will be called a internet. If Chiense govt do not want to disclose some of their private information, they should not put on net. What is logic to ban google in chine. Every country has some secreats, means all countries should ban google. No it is not the right solution. According to me right solution is to create some software, details should pass to only a code/password ownwer.

It's really sad that people do such Detrimental dealings for money or other reasons. If you are breaching the security or the limitations, it should be monitored and should be punished. Some people are misusing it but mostly affected one's are the good users. It will be really tough for someone for whom Google is a must. The technology is advancing everyday and those who are interested in that Google can be considered as the best source of information. Information is in your tips without any difficulty. Due to someone others are losing their chance more precisely I can say their right to gain knowledge or their right to know the facts.
