The President - Past the Politics
I was very impressed by President Obama's appearance tonight on the Today Show. First of all, t is a brave step for a politician to make. He is willing to go off the script and expose himself to embarassment. It would be easy to nitpick individual comments that he made off the cuff that some people might consider inapporpriate, but we mustn't let that overshadow the amazing honesty and directness he exhibited. I especially appreciate the president's comments about not attacking or blaming individuals, but finding a way to work together to solve the problem as it stands. It is how problems are solved in my own professional life. I can understand where he is coming from. Although I am as angry as anyone about the abuses to the system that executives committed for their own personal gain and with disregard for consequences, I am a little disgusted by political grandstanding and scapegoating. The bonuses paid by AIG are a small percentage of the total amount of the total amount the government has put into that company. Tim Geitner is a person, and shouldn't be made a figure for the problem. The president was inspiring, positive, pro-active, and optomistic in a non-shallow way.
